Capt Mc Nair's place in this commission was taken by James I. Trott. The Agents proceeded upon their duty. There were four additions made to the number - viz: Walter S. Adair, Thomas Fox Taylor, Johnson Rogers, & Brice Martin. The three first named were met in the prosecution of their orders by the Georgia Guard at Blackburn's on the Etoura?. The Serjeant called Mr R Rogers to a private conference behind the house in which he & the others had been seated. Mr Rogers withdrew & the Serjeant entered the room & arrested his companions on a charge "of violating an express law of Georgia." This occurred in Forsyth County. These gentlemen were conducted to the head quarters of the Guard, Spring Place, Murray County, where they found Mr Thomas Fox Taylor & Mr Walter S. Adair also under guard, having been arrested at the house of Mr Adair, Cass County, preciently after the arrival there of Mr Taylor & previous to their proceeding on their embassy. Through some of their friends, the case was communicated to Major Hansel, then attending the court at Dahlonica, Lumpkin County. the Major, as Counsellor for the Nation, immediately appeared at the Guard's Head Quarters, and was refused admittance. He was known to be furnished with a writ of Habeas Corpus. It was known that the Sheriff was absent, and preparations were forthwith made to remove? the prisoners. They were taken first about 1/2 a mile upon the main road, the guard then struck into woods, & dodged about among unfrequented hills & deep swamps, thus hiding them for three or four days & nights from the relief of the law. At length they halted in the morass of Conesauga, about 3 miles from Spring Place, where they were encamped in a thick forest for a night, during which a spy 'was detached from the Guard to ascertain at Spring Place whether the Lawyer was still there. Finding Major Hansell had departed, the prisoners were noiselessly marched back to Head Quarters. Presently afterwards they were met by Col: Bishop
