Department of War Office Indian Affairs March 4th 1835

Gentm. The Secretary of War will be happy to see you in the course of the morning at his office in the War Department. Very respectfully Your hule humble Sert Servant Elbert Herring John Ross Esqr and Others of the Delegation This interview simply conveyed the intelligence that the Senate had acted upon the memorial & agreed to purchase the Cherokee country for five millions of dollars. The delegation requested further particulars, but the Secretary was not prepared to communicate anything more. The Delegation expressed a desire for the entire proceedings and departed, stating that they would defer any observations until they were more fully informed concerning the proceedings of the Senate. On the 6th of March, the Secretary of War sent them the following letter.
