house. The priest and his right hand man occupied the middle seat in the holy place, and the seven men (counsellors) above mentioned, and the speaker occupied the two seats on the right & left. Here all spent the night in watching, observing however entire stillness, as if mourning.
The next morning, just a the sun arose, the priest prayed to it, with his face toward the East. He then took some of the water from the pot, in which the herbs had been boiling all night, and gave to each of the seven men (counselors) the clans being separate in the house, these men gave them this drink, each man giving to the individuals of his own clan. All drank of this; and fasted till after noon. The priest & his seven counsellors fasted till near sunset. All continued at the town house only as they might go home for victuals & return. That night they might lie down and sleep as occasion required. None must drink any but spring water. During the two succeeding days, the people continued at the town house drinking the herb tea as they pleased, yet observed peculiar stillness.
