After the rain commenced, if there was an appearance of too much, the conjurer offered a sacrifice of tobacco to the woman, requesting her to stay her hand and cause the rain to cease. Those appointed to fast, stayed in the council house, (having victuals taken to them after the expiration of the seven fast days) till the rain commenced: and then the whole town assembled, and held an all night dance in honor of the being or beings who had been supposed to send the rain, whether the moon, the sun, the little men (thunders) at the North, the greater man (thunder) in the west, or the woman in the east.
