Septennial Feast. _______________ This was called the U ku dance because on this occasion the U ku danced. It was celebrated once in seven years, about the time of the first appearance of the first autumnal new moon. The seven counsellors of U ku consulting him, determined the time of this feast, and notified the people by sending messengers through the nation+. This is said to have been peculiarly, a feast of rejoicing. The national council house was always near the residence of the U ku and also near a larger town, able to accommodate the people. Seven days previous to the feast, the 7 counsellors directed the men of that town to hunt. These, on the 7th night, returned, and sent their meat through the town to be cooked for the feast; and on the same evening the nation assembled at the council house. The seven counsellors of the U ku then made the following appointments, vir. some to direct & order the feasts, - some women to direct in cooking, - a very aged & honorable woman to warm water to wash the [[U ku}. - two men to wash him, - one to undress & dress him, - one to fan him, - one to sing for him, & lead the music, - one to carry him, and one to prepare his seats, etc. Arrangements being made
