Among the Creeks a young woman must not marry till after her first separation. If previous to this time of life, a young man fell in love with her, he spake for her and on obtaining the consent of her parents and relatives, as well as of his own, the contract was made, or in other words, she was betrothed to him, and the relation was considered complete, as if they were already married. Her father became his father, & her brothers his brothers as really as after he had taken her, and all all his venison he took to her, though he might not be allowed to take her as his wife for a year or two after.
