Shortly after the feast, the two directors mentioned at the commencement of the feast, (or as others say, viz. Three Killer) the seven Chiefs, or prime counsellors) ++ appointed a dance, and at that time appointed the seventh night for making new fire, and the next morning dispatched their messenger to give notice accordingly. On the evening of the sixth day all assembled at the council house, and spent the night in dancing.

Early in the morning the seven whose business it was to attend to making ?end fire, commenced their operations. One, the seventh, was officially the fire maker, and the other six waited on him. A round hole was made in a block of wood, and a small quantity of a certain weed, dry, was put in, and then a stick, the ? of which just filled the hole, was whirled swiftly round till the weed caught fire. This was kindled on the hearth, cleaned & prepared, and then taken to every house by the women already waiting for it. They

cleaned their fire places, extinguished their old fire, and made ready to receive the new fire. A piece of the first meat they killed after this, in each family must be put into the new fire as a sacrifice. Citation: Nutsawi Three Killer
