6 National Feasts, but in modern times sectional.

1.  Previous to the first new moon in spring, i.e., March new moon, the seven counsellors of the two chiefs viz. - crossed out  N ku?  Cherokee words crossed out

appointed a dance at night. After the w omen had performed the friendship dance, the above chiefs gather with others - crossed out, appointed the time for the feast; having counted the nights from the last new moon, and also consulted the "word of Moses" or Divining stone, to determine the time of the new moon in March or first spring new moon.+ Nutsawi - crossed out

The above seven counsellors then dispatched their messenger in the usual manner to notify the nation when the feast would be attended and to direct the hunters in the chief

town to provide meat for the occasion. They also selected men & women to order the feast, - to cook &c. &c. The hunters were to kill turkeys, deer & any creations proper for food, and prepare & preserve the meat for the feast. One Buck however they dressed whole i.e., they took off the skin, and took out the entrails, leaving the head whole, and the liver, lights? and heart in the body. This being put up in a safe place, notice was giving to the priest who sent his right hand man to fetch it to the place appointed. The buck skin, however, together with a doe & a fawn skin, the hunters dressed white and delivered to the priest.
