Wm McIntosh had obtained the confidence of the Cherokee Chiefs and he was welcomed among them as a brother. They called him the Beloved Brother and the Cherokee Chief; and he would attend their regular Councils, sometimes as a guest, sometimes to examine into strikeout: the complaints of agressions from his own nation, the neighboring Creeks, and strikeout before his own nation he was appointed to represent the rights of the Cherokees. It was well known that there was a great spirit of speculation afloat among the government agents super-intending the Creeks; but no suspicion as yet attached to McIntosh though it was believed some of the Creek Chiefs had been tampered with.
