Washington 29th Apr 1820 Dear Genl. Mr Erwin, the son of Colo. Erwin, is now in this place, and will set out this day for Savannah. I understand from a gentleman who has conversed with him, that he will explain in the most satisfactory manner the whole transaction of the Africans carried to the agency by Bowen. I also understand that he was no party to that transaction, further than the advance of the funds, with which they were purchased, but that the funds were not advanced by him for that purpose. His testimony which I understand has not been taken by you, will place the whole
