Sunday morning Feb. 13, 1983 John Sobieski Rt. 6 Box 580 Chippewa Falls, Wis. 54729
Dear Jack, I hope you don't mind reading my handwriting, but Joanne is still asleep and I don't want to wake her
with the typewriter. It's only 7 a.m.
I had an interesting day, yesterday, but also have a hang-over today. I went to the village of Cadot, about
9 miles east of here, to get a gasket for our dishwasher door. The man who runs the IGA grocery store also is the Maytag dealer.
so, I got the gasket and on the way home, I stopped at the Landfill Lounge tavern (so named because it
is on the corner where the road goes to our town dump. It's a small country bar where one can meet his neighbors and have a good conversation. Sherman, the owner, had put up a big sign on the wall: "To celebrate our 5th anniversary of screwing the public - Beer 25 c - Bar Booze 50 c - Month of February." Well, as long as a glass of beer was only a quarter I couldn't help but stay there a while. a man who I haven't seen for a long time came in and we had a long talk. He is a batchelor [sic] and will be 64 soon and is thinking of retiring - he's marketing manager
