direction. The road led on and on, and I hated to turn back without seeing what was beyond the next bend, but Glenn and I planned to get an early start and I had to pack my bag and dress. Ruby and Jay served us a very nice lunch about 11:30, after we came back from Troutdale. Thank you for taking care of us so nicely. We started out shortly after twelve. As we drove down the mountains I had the same feeling I had on the way to and from Marion and Galax every time the mood started downhill - a great protest inside me “Let’s don’t go down!” And every time the road started uphill again - a sudden rush of exaltation. I am from the hill country, but I guess the mountains are my home. The view from Roaring Gap was not as clear as usual on account of a thickish fog. Glenn didn’t help a bit by dragging out a Little Margie story: “Isn’t thi a lovely view! I wish we had some glasses.”
