15 of prairie on fire which looked strangely terrific. When gusts of wind fanned the burning grass, the land was one mass of fire, then huge black columns of smoke rose & rolled about above the flames & it did not require any very particular unclear of imagination to picture a large city on fire. Many unclear tales are told of travellers houses & cattle being surround & burnt by the Prairie fires.
