Memoranda Jan 1st Very cold & unpleasant Spent the entire day in my tent_- At night went to the Generals to a Reunion __ Fine drunken time __ a good many there _ Fine table Plenty to drink Dancing__ Staid on till two oClock in the morning QM & Lieut Mills disgracefully drunk__ Paid mess acct to date (Jan 2) Another cold day_ in tent all day__ Slept some to make up for last night Commenced the reading of "Peculiar" by Epes Sargent__ caught cold and feel not very well today Relieved Lieut Mills & detailed Lieut Wakeman as AAA[unclear] Retire early J-E B- XX $2_ Jan 3rd Rainy & unpleasant_- Am feeling first rate_ Rode up town intending to call upon Mrs. Grove but the rain prevented __ Called at the Genls House Col Milloy __ Saw Cadle & learned Genl Crocker was in town_ No news- no letters & no papers _ NY "Sky [unclear]" left this morning I think__ Retire early to read in bed__ Grizzly is quietly sleeping
