                                                                                                                            ......

it be, with its arabesques and its diversity, forms
a static mass, finding its repose in itself and
Maintained by the firmness of the central point. Mobility
is often obtained by a diagonal effect which plays the
principal role in many of the groups : it is the
diagonal which is the dynamic element as much
in the isolated figures as in their grouping. It is
that which forms the attitude and the gesture, the
Axis and its perpendicular, - with Zadkine airunderlined is modeled
with matter, kneaded with it. Space until then sterile, completes
the figures and as much forms their continuation as on
the contrary constitutes a contrast. The void place becomes
volume; they serve as a treatment of union and are thus
their own life. Is it not the sun that sends forth the static of these
groups? The persons who flee, the dansers; our thought
does not separate them from the ground. It is this
that is the natural element in Zadkine. Away from the
Far East where he was born, he has incorporated in this
country (France) the classic culture which is France.
