From all circumstances it seems evident that previous to their acquaintance with Europeans, they had  ever worn a long beard; but on becoming acquainted with them, they, by degrees, learned to imitate them, so that fifty or sixty years ago, a long beard, though common, began to appear indecorous, and therefore they commenced pulling it out. The Indians say that red is the most perfect and complete colour, and glory in it as distinguishing them from other people, and showing them to be the direct and unadulterated descendants from the the first man, who, they say was red, made of red earth. This is correct. And if the Indians are the only red people, then it is a fact that they are the only people resembling, in complexion, our first parents. But the jews claim to be the direct descendents from Adam, which claim is substantiated by scripture genealogy. But just as far as they resemble Adam, in complexion they are red. The question then arises why the jews are not red? The reason why Judah & Benjamin are not red is obvious. They have to a great extent, amalgamated with other nations.
