The Commanding General directs me to say to you, that if, upon your return from Red River you find no Indians, and think there is no chance of finding any, you can come in whenever you chose. If, on the contrary you find that it would be advisable to remain until the last of October, and be so doing make good use of your troops, with the prospect of accomplishing something, you will remain until that time, but not remain out longer. |
