You have doubtless sympathized too much with your dear friend Sarah Martin for your own good but such things we can hardly help & we must try to rally as well as we can. Do you have your class at the jail? Is not that too much a tax on your sympathies you know wehn we know (if we could) just what we can do & what we cannot we may be able to hit the happy medium & thus make the most of our strength

Dear Little Sister,

  Yours was received today and was ever so gladly welcomed. It came in company with one from our brother, Dr. Keith from who I had not heard since my return to NY I will enclose it with this. ask what you think of his proposition? I have longed for you, darling ever so much the last few weeks. I wanted the assistance of your good sense to keep me from being morbidly sensitive & silly. It does almost  seem as though we might do well together. You soothe me more than any one else when I am sick sometimes, at times I help you. Still on some accounts
