Making Modernism

Credits

This website was developed out of the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute, "Making Modernism: Literature and Culture in Twentieth-Century Chicago, 1893-1955," held twice at the Newberry Library: from June 17 to July 12, 2013; and again from June 12 to July 7, 2017.  Directed by Liesl Olson, each institute gathered twenty-five faculty and graduate students from around the United States to discuss and explore the rise of artistic and literary modernism in Chicago and the Midwest, guided by leading faculty in in the fields of literature, history, art history, print culture, and African American studies.

All items on this site are held in the collections of the Newberry Library.
