Emblemata Politica

Further Research

From 27-29 September 2018, the Newberry Library is hosting an international symposium, Emblems and Empire: Emblematica Politica in Early Modern Nürnberg, followed by an associated workshop for graduate students, Physical and Virtual Emblematica.

The conference is funded by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation with additional support from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), and the Goethe Institute, Chicago.  We want to express our gratitude to everyone who made this research and these events possible.

We expect to publish a volume of edited essays from the conference “Emblems and Empire.” Mara R. Wade is working on a monograph, The Politics of Culture: Public Humanities in the Free Imperial City, Nürnberg 1521-1620, about Rem’s volume. Her new research is supported by a fellowship at the Getty Research Institute.
