in pencil in top margin: Rogers, John C.
Feb. 19, 1977 Jack oboy oboy:
Had a note from Muhrer, said he "loved that Artist piece" or mine, and had found underlined: two short stories of mine in the files! Wrote to him and said I enjoyed doing the Artist' piece and hoped they liked underlined: one of the stories at last. Gave him names of bookstores in area and Washington that underlined: might be interested in handling FOOLKILLER, I sent a copy of the FOOLKILLER to Comstock, editor of the underlined: W.Va. Hillbilly shock him out of his W.Va. wits, or maybe I am wrong?! Comstock had a piece about a strikepoke in the last issue and I wrote him about underlined: that and the fact a newspaper editor refused to print a word "funkeybutt" I had in an article - editor said the word had a "bad meaning" where he came from (the Deep South) - this was a Hearst paper - you'd think ANYTHING went in THAT!? A Negro was here today, friend of my son's, and he read my piece in the FOOLKILLER -- said he didn't know until he read it that artists had such underlined: a bad time -- he thought any time they wanted "freedom" they got it and no questions asked! He hoped to see more of my stuff and also the FOOLKILLER. Leo (the Negro) has a lot to learn about the U.S.A. - he works for a guvmint agency too -- moving furniture about. A nice fellow, but I wonder where he has been ?! We'll have to educate him, slowly. Salud,
