COPY OF Letter from Pearl Burrell - Bob's Mother - written 31 Dec '52

"Wednesday 31 Dec 1952 Dear Mary and Joe: Your Xmas card came for Bob and I but Bob didn't get to see it. He was killed on Now. 17 in an automobile accident. He had taken me to Martinez to the hospital, I was to have an operation, he stayed till I was assigned to my room which was after lunch then he came home. The minister came and talked to him. I was expecting a package from Alma and I told him to open it. The card was in the mail-box saying they had taken the package back. He took his books back to the library and stopped and got the package and brought it home. He opened it and there was a small radio in it. he put it in the car and started back to the hospital to bring it to me. As he reached the top of one of the hills the sun blinded him and he never saw the truck in front of him. It was one of those large butane trucks, the driver said he looked back to see what happened and he saw Bob's car was steaming and went back to get Bob out in case the car caught on fire. The man in back of Bon helped him to get out, they layed [sic] him on the grass beside of the road ->
