was held in Chicago. Reputedly, he was a very rich man. I wonder if Gertrude went to the funeral. I suppose she did.

Is Charley Miller still in Chicago? I thought he was a very interesting chap and wish I could get better acquainted with him. But I suppose he has finished his work here by this time.
It seems that every week or two I hear or read something about "Jack Conroy's writing his autobiography". Are you actually, and if so, how is it going?
Chicago is still unseasonably cool. It has been a very chilly summer. (Luckily the Negroes here are keeping their cool, too. I hope that keeps up for the rest of the summer.)
I have been reading several books by Franz Kafka lately. Saw a movie that is like a busman's holiday for me _ "Up the Down Staircase". I thought is was pretty good.
If you hear of any openings for a teacher of English in a junior college (in Moberly, or elsewhere), let me know, Jack. I believe the time is coming for me to travel on.
I read somewhere lately that a new book on Dublin has come out, by V.S. Pritchett with photographer Evelyn Hoffa [Hofer]. We have the book in London [London Perceived] by the same author and photographer, and if the one on Dublin is as good, I'm sure it's a fine book.
I don't think I have anything else to say right now, Jack. I hope you are in good health and that Gladys is taking care of her health. We were very upset when she had some stomach pains right after Henrietta served dinner to all of us. Anne and Henrietta send their regards to both of you.
(South Shore seems much quieter (and less interesting) now that the Conroys have moved away.)
Drop us a line (or a postcard) when you can. Regards, Warren.

P.S. I enjoyed reading your review of the Cortazar book. I think I might like to read some of his work.
