page number 75 Oct - The buffaloes are trying to cross the river, but we drive them back almost as often as they come down close to camp so that but few of them get over. They come very close to camp, some of them being close up to the hay stacks when daylight came this morning. Four of the miners started for Helena, this morning, leaving three here. The one who was brought in wounded, died a few days ago and was buried in the cemetery. Before he died he called in the officers and told them that he exonerated the man who shot him from all blame. 19th. Most of the buffaloes are going back to the high lands again.
