THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22, 1863. Drew a shelter tent & Jones drew one & we put up a good tent. Capt Osborne had an attack of the erysyplis, but still stays with the Brigade FRIDAY 23 As Capt Osborne is too unwell Capt Johnson inspected the 143 Regt. I went along until his clerk came. Wrote out the report of the 149 & 150th Regts. SATURDAY 24 Our brig was rear guard of Corps. Rained all day. Marched at daylight through the Gap: the old road to Gainsville from there to Bristow Station. Very muddy had to wade Brown Run just before getting here: 2 1/2 feet of water. Reb cavalry attacked men? of 2d. corps at Gainsville just after we passed drew up & expected a fight. I wished for one.
