126 During the Spring assizes, it was expected that there would be a very interesting trial, namely of a woman for the murder of her husband. The case was that the husband had given her cause to be jealous upon which in a paroxysm of jealous rage - she shot him. The Coroners inquest found her guilty of Murder & she was incarcerated until the Assizes should open.* Judge Morriss opened the court - then followed the entry of Mexicans into San Antonio, the Judge, gentlemen of the bar & the principal officers of Court were off to the Army - the Woman who was about to be tried for Murder, was bailed - she went up the country to her friends - & in all probability when called upon would be 'Non inventus.'
