Trip to the Far West 1856 January 11th Started from Boston at 8 1/2 O'clock A.M. and reached Springfield 98 miles from Boston at 12 O'clock 'M. Took dinner and waited 2 hours for the Express train from the West at 2 0'clock, we started on and arrived at Albany about 8 O'clock in the evening. stopped at the Delevan House had very good accomodations being 200 miles from home and somewhat fatigued I retired at 9 1/2 0'clock P.M. Saturday Jany 12th Started from Albany at 7? 1/4 O'clock A. M. and rode to Syracuse 348 miles from Boston here we stopped half an hour for dinner at 1 1/4 O'clock P.M. started for Rochester reached this place at 5 O'clock P.M. here we changed cars for Niagara Falls. arrived at this place at 8 1/4 O'clock in the evening in the midst of a Snow Storm. Stopped at the Clarindon House? which is opposite the Depot and a very fair House but not the first class had a very good room and retired at 9 O'clock 505 miles from Boston Sunday Jany 13th Snow has fallen during the night to the depth of 2 feet on the level. That spoils my prospects of pleasure for this day. I had anticipated taking a fine view of the Falls and Suspension Bridge but now I must content myself with reading or almost anything to wear away the time. P.M. it snows yet and the prospect of being weather bound is rather too good to suit a fellow 500 miles from home among strangers. 7? O'clock tired enough of lounging about and go to bed to drown uneasiness and seek rest in balmy sleep. Monday Jany 14th Arose at 7? O'clock and took breakfast. and started out for a walk in the snow. went down as far toward the falls as I could, just in sight of the rapids. had to give up seeing
