Topsham Dec. 27th, 1846 Dear Mother It is not long since I wrote to you I believe, only just before my journey, and since I have heard from you: but I supposed you would like to hear from my adventures; and I should think as you are most all alone, your children gone away, that you would feel sort of lonely and like to receive letters -- just as I do. So I will write again. My Journey -- I started by stage Dec 20th Sabbath Eve at 10 1/2 oclock. (By starting then I could be in Boston 1/2 a day to see Almeda; if I waited till morning, I must go straight underlinedthroughunderlined to get to New Haven in season. Got to Portland at 3 A.M. Got into the Cars at 7 1/2 A.M. Upper Route for Boston, arrived there at 12 1/2 P. M. Found Almeda & children all well Sissy getting fat again very fast, just been vaccinated &c. Doctor charged her nothing, only 1.00 vaccination Going to Sutton soon, waiting for letter from Joseph. Called with Almeda at Mrs. Child's, and at Mr. Caleb Metcalf's Allen St. Mr M unwell Rheumatic Fever &c. Tuesday Rail Road to Worcester, to Springfield, to Hartford, to New Haven, where arrived 4 1/2 P.M. quite a long ride for one day.
