97 The Cheefe Ruler among the Indians in the name of all the rest made an affectionate speech to this effect wee doe with all thankfulness acknowledge Gods great Goodnes to us and preserv alive to this day. Formerly in our begining to pray unto God wee received much in'couragement from many Godly English both here & in England. Since the warre begun betwen the English & wicked Indians wee expected to bee all cut of not only by the enimy indians whome wee knew hated us, But also by many English who were much exasperated and very angry with us. in this case wee cried to God in prayer for helpe. then God stirred up the Governor & magistrates to send us to the Iland which was greeveous to us, for wee were forced to leave all our substance behind us and wee expected nothing lesse at the Iland but famine & nakednes, But behold Gods goodness to us & our poore families in stirring up the harts of many Godly persons in England who never saw us yet shewed us kindnes & much love & gave us som corne and cloathing; together with other provision of clams that God provided for us - also in due time God stirred up the harts of the Governor & magistrates to call forth some of our Bretheren to goe forth to fight against the enimy both to us & the english & was pleased to give them courage & sucess in that service. unto the acceptance of the English for it was allwais in our harts to endeavr to do all wee
