She says all of our family are well in Chicago. I went with Mattie Faulds to see Mrs Dumesnil and her X daughter Mary Belknap. then called on Mrs Dulany and daughter. Returned to dinner and after tea called to see Mrs AD. Hunt and Lizzie, found all my friends at home. Saturday Feb 27, 1875. The sun has shone brightly today, but it is cold, all of us well, Hunt much better. I went with Mattie at twelve O,clock to the Gospel meeting, there was a large crowd there of real nice people. we then went shopping I called to see Miss Schroeder. at eight O,clock David my Sister Belle, Mattie Belle and myself all got into the Carriage and went to Mrs Dave,s Caldwell,s to a Musical given for the young ladies of 12 and 16 years of age. Mattie Belle Shreve played and sung, and received great applause. She excelled all the girls present in both. They called her the great Prima Donna, she is 15 years old. the names of the girls were Claire Johnson, Mamie Pettit, Lilly Durrett, Mamie Caldwell, Mamie Winston, Luly Henning, Minnie Osborn strikeout 2 words Jenny Hamilton, Miss Agatha Caldwell, blank Johnson Miss Effie Rogers, Marie Hawkins Thursday Feb 28 1875 This is a bright sunny day, all of us well. Hunt well today. None of us went to church but Mattie Belle & Jamie. Mrs A.D. Hunt came to see me to say good bye. Sister Belle came to my room and said she had decided to let Tom go home with me to go to school then she took a big cry over it. we got ourselves all ready took our supper said good bye and at half past seven X started for the Depot, Ma sent to my boys ten dollars and Sis sent a gift to each child, Tom Shreve brought his trunk and started to Chicago with us. we travelled untill twelve then reached Indianapolis and got the Drawing Room and had all four beds made up. and Mr Badger Tom Hunt, and myself took a bed a piece. we spent a good night and arrived two hours behind time
