Shreve of the unclear line is ordered to take the com'd of it at three in the afternoon a signal gun was fired from the park at which time the tents of the whole army are struck our baggage and stores are all loaded on horses at six o clock another cannon is fired at which time the baggage is unloaded & tents pitched with orders to march the next morning Wednesday 25 Day this morning is fair our baggage & stores are loaded the hours roll away without our knowledge & the pleasant morning is turn'd to a rainy day our baggage & stores is unloaded & our flour covered we keep our tents the remainder of the day the evening is fair & we are ordered to march the next morning Thursday 26 Day --- this morning the weather is fair we find so many obstacles in the way we do not march till two o clock our army being formed in proper order of march we march 4 miles and encamp on a large flat of grass we here begin to fire morning & evening guns we find in the grass a spot where we suppose the enemy had laid in order to cut of our small scouts but never have effected their design Fryday 27 Day we march early Gen'l Poors brigade forms the right collum which carries us over a lofty mountain where we find it necessary to guard against rattle snakes which are very plenty our pack horses have a large defile to cross which takes them from 11 o clock
