Dr Sir, Major Cumming happened to be at the post office and received your letter at the same time that I received one from you, he mentioned to me that he considered the Bargain as aloud and would write by today’s mail so as to obligate himself to comply with the terms proposed in my letter. Understanding that this bargain would be aloud I offered Mr Stephen Elliott, Major Cummings note for 3500 dollars which he agrees to take payment of a balance due on the (unclear) purchase and for which he has commenced with, I promise it will be perfectly agreeable to you to (unclear) that to use in payment of your notes which will with the interest added to the time when Major Cummings note will become due nearly amount to 2500 dollars, any balance I will settle. I will thank you as the affair cannot be immediately aloud to give me an appearance of this in writing in order that I may satisfy Mr Elliott in that regard
