here who lives in the fine woods now, and is much better of the asthma than when in Hillsdale. We intend to inquire more about him, but we do not feel very hopeful that Wm. would be much better there. I wish we were safe here in Steuben, but perhaps it is better as it is. We dread the journey a good deal this cold weather. They are building a temporary bridge at Ashtabula. I think they expect to have it ready so that the cars can pass over it in two or three weeks and perhaps sooner. the passengers, baggage & c. are now carried around in sleighs. We are having a long spell of pretty cold stormy weather even here in Mich. There has been good sleighing for several weeks. I think they had only about one week of sleighing last winter. It will probably be better for the fruit and crops next summer to have so much snow now. The
