c/o Haskard, Casadi & Co., Florence. Marcy 5, 1931. Copy underlined Dearest Emily, Your roll of transcripts came yesterday - very interesting & welcome - and, crossing mine as we hoped, your letter followed this morning, bringing the cheque. it is not necessary to tell you how gratefully received - also the clipping about George's munificent bequests. May they do much good! I think Geo worked very hard & lived his life to show Keene that his family could do something, too. It is so consistent with all his conduct & his character as I knew it, that the idea of his leaving us anything never crossed my mind as the barest possibility. The wonder was that he did what he did about Grace's surprising remembrance of us, for he wrote me that the money was not hers to give, but his own - and tho he docked a good bit off for "poor Arthur" (as he wrote) what income, especially that which you took such wonderful care of, was manna from heaven. which lifted us to a better level for health & work ever since, For your dear sake,
