from Canal Street--We were over an hour getting there arrived in a shower, but found the Commanding Officer waiting with an umbrella for us at the [crossout] Cars. He was very Kind showing us all over the Post. & here introduced to a number of Officers--Saw the house in which J lived over twenty five years ago. We were much pleased with our visit, returned by the French Market & levee. I saw a ship loaded with cotton on fire, a great many bales being destroyed. Took Lunch at a French Restaurant
