    The two right hand men now proceeded to the stand which had been prepared on the river bank. The deerskins were unfolded and spread on it, as they had been in the house of convocation. The cloth was unfolded also, so as to expose the three-beaded strings that had been placed there, to full view. These were then classed according to the age of their respective depositiors; --- for example, --- a cloth being spread on each skin, taking the buckskin first, the process began by setting on the cloth a string of beads to represent the oldest man, --- then another for the next oldest, and so on. For the women, the same system was observed on the doe skin. 
    The right hand man now brought sticks, as at the national celebration of the same festival, already described; and, as then, the people were arranged, -- the stick, set in the sand, -- and the omens of the water watched: - The priest next began to consult those derivable from the three beaded strings:
