Kiowa Kansas Oct. 9 1897?

Dear Aunties: -

To-night is Sunday night and it is raining so that there will be no church. I am now in papa's room and study Latin English Arithmetic and Physical Geography. I wore long pants for the first time to-day. Saturday was Sister's birthday and I gave her an apron for a present. She was 11 years old. I am going up to Osawatomie at Christmas to visit Lewis. Mamma told me to ask you what would be good to take as a preventive of diphtheria. Cases of it are reported a few miles of us on all sides. I have a pig and have been saving up money to buy feed for it this winter. We have a horse now and I ride it after my cows. We have a few chickens and a few are mine. As soon as our cow is fresh, I will have to milk it. I learned to milk before she went dry.
