nay to the existence of Free Government. I have been much gratified by the Report (which I trust is true) that the Editor of the Patriot of Savannah has received a small portion of his deserts. It has been a matter of no little astonishment to me that such a nefarious Publication has been permited to exist so long as it has. I think it high time to begin to select the sheep from the goats, and to convince such characters, that they will not be allowed to breathe the air of the Country much less eat its bread at the same time that they are employed as engines to subvert he Government that fosters them. There are many reports in circulation respecting the Patriots, and the Spaniards? that a battle has been fought and several slain on both sides, but the relative circumstances destroys the probability of the Trust of the Report. I have also heard that Capt. Cuthbert has embarked from Savannah with 100 volunteers. It will give me pleasure to hear particulars when your leisure will permit. Since your arrival in this neighbourhood I hear but little which can be relied on from St. Mary's.
