Whereas certain Articles of Agreement entered in at Washington City on the 14th day of March, 1835, between John F. Schermenhorn, on the part of the United States, and certain individual Cherokees, (to unclear) John Ridge, Elias Boudinor, Archilla Smith, Samuel Bell, John West, William Davis and Ezekiel Wast, has been read and explained. And whereas the said articles unclear to be merely a series of propositions to be submitted to the Cherokee people in their approval, and which, if not approved, are to be null and void; Therefore, as Representatives of said people in General Council assembled, Be it Resolved by the Committee and Council, that we cannot view with feeling of any other kind but those of abhorrence, this second attempt on the part of unauthorized individuals, to negotiate form and improve on, as a treaty, the object of which in to affect our dearest rights and interests; nor can we, for a moment, entertain the idea of giving it our approval.
