Monday July 5th 1875

Today has been clear and sunny, and quite cool. all of us well, it has been generally celebrated all over the City. My boys have had their pistols and powder all day. Sheridan and Tom Shreve went out in our buggy and took their rifle, Sheridan shot three birds on the wing, he is a good marksman. Mr Angell and Mr Harvey went out in the Country to buy a Cow, as ours is not good. Mr Badger at home playing with Hunt. after lunch I went to Belle,s and stayed all evening, Belle not very well her baby & Robby have whooping cough very badly. John is a little better. Mr Angell came for me.

Tuesday July 6th 1875

It has been a little cloudy all day. at nine O. clock, my two boys Sheridan and Shreve with Tom Shreve went out to riverside and spent the day. they returned home all right. at ten the Photographer came to take the little Angell,s pictures they five weeks old to morrow. he has succeeded but we have not had the proofs. we bought a new Cow from Mrs Dunne and gave our new Cow and Calf with fifty dollars to boot. it is high but we must have good milk for the babies, as they will be raised by bottle. Ada and Mattie Faulds spent the day with Grandpa Badger. I went to see Belle,s baby after our supper. she very unwell, all the rest better.

Wednesday July 7th 1875

This has been a beautiful day. all of us well, at nine O, clock Belle sent for me to come down as her baby was very sick. Mr Badger Mattie Faulds and myself all went down, the baby had got over her bad attack which frightened Belle, but she is a very sick baby with whooping Cough bad bowels fever and sore mouth also teething, I stayed all day with Belle. John sat up to day, I returned home and then went back to see how they did for the night
