this subject, we must request the favor of you, as a matter of justice to ourselves, to communicate frankly to us the reasons & authority upon which that suspicion rests. Gentlemen, I have just received your letter of this date. The sum of Five Millions of dollars, which is offered for your claims east of the Mississippi, will , as I have already informed you, be in full for your entire cession. The application of it will be such as you desire, a just regard being had to individual rights. Nothing more will be paid for removal, or for any other purpose or object whatsoever. In giving to you the full value of your property, the United States comply with all the demands of Justice upon them. This letter closes the intercourse in writing between us. I have already intimated to you that I could not continue this mode of communication. Any information you may desire, that is proper to be given to you, shall be given at any time
