This deficiency in the pulpit, however, had, for me, at least, its equivalent in the uplifting of earnest petitions & in the sweet singing of the choir. I remember, too, how I came home; glad that I had gone & after my own simple devotions, how I retired to unclear, with a sweet unclear of hope & confidence in my heart -- my heart, which, since that Sabbath night, has taken to itself the burden of many a sad & troubled day. What a wonderful thing one's memory is! How it wanders back over the silent path of departed days, months & years, gathering of & cherishing, like crumbs of comfort, many a sound, look, & incident, which others, no doubt, have long since forgotten! How I wish that I had other traits about me, which were as good & as servicable as is this memory of mine!
