September, Thursday, 10. 1863. Warm as usual & no wind. The Genl has been annoying us all day & I have ben? retaliating in the same way. Sent order for Vicksburg which was not obeyed. Sent for butcher Knives not sent. Recd order near night relieving me from command & the adjt [{adjutant]] too. War has begun. Retired late Capt Wilsen returned Friday 11 Warm as usual__ all Quiet & no news from any quarter No boats up nor down__ Attended Battalion drill myself to day __ Troubled but little by the Genl to day Sumner returned to this Reg for duty__ Read some & slept a little __ Am enjoying myself in a quiet way__ Saturday 12 Warm as usual__ Recd letters this morning __one from Sister Libbie & one from Sherman__ Answered Shermans letter __ Rode out as far as Harts with Col Peebles__ had a pleasant time_- At night called upon Col Risden_ Genl came while was there__ Things are becoming interesting __ [unclear] so!
