on horseback in the day time are obliged to cover the horses and then they can hardly ? them along a horse uncovered you cannot tell what colour it is it will be so completely drenched in blood Wednesday 17th Last night our people returned but had not got the land because they did not go to the right land office They intended to go to the next night to enter we soon persuaded them off the notion of it as we started on our way the night pleasant in crossing one bad place two of our horses got down and we were afraid for some time we would lose one of them the moon had gave down and it was dark we were in trouble however after good deal of trouble the horses were got up and continued to Lynn Grove 17 miles from where we started day began to dawn when we arrived there the stable had been burned down and they had no consideration for our horses this would have killed them before standing in the prairie they was no other house in the grove the horses were tired it was 11 miles to another grove there was no alternative we must proceed although we could not get there until the flies would become very troublesome
