I should not have deemed this worthy of notice, however destitute of truth, as it is, was it not calculated to create unfavorable impressions on the minds of others by misleading them. By referring to the laws of the nation it will be seen that the salary of the members of the Committee was $100 per annum, and afterwards, it was varied to $2.00 per day during the session of the General Council: the $20,000 under the Treaty of 1804 was not paid in 1819, as stated, but in 1825.
