Friday July 3rd 1863

I had a call today from Mrs Ludington, Miss Messinger Misses Hill. Miss Bowlin. Mr Thomas Miss Flint came in and spent the evening - also Mr Whetherbe Mr Badger took a Carriage and invited Mr & Mrs Tileston & Grace to drive - they went out to Father Badgers and then came again to see me. we had Ice cream & Cake. I went town in the parlor first time for weeks - George Gerish is here from New York. to make this his home.

Saturday July 4th

We have a warm day - there is much noise all around us from fireworks and Crackers. we all at home. at four 0.clock Mr Badger Bell& Eva went to his Fathers. I wrote home today. Mr Badger brought me a very large lot of fine linen for table - Pa took Ada & Sheridan to see the fireworks after tea. Mr Badger and children did not return until 12 O clock.

Sunday July 5th

It is very warm this morning. Nancy our coloured woman came up to see us beore we got out of bed. to say that her Husband she was afraid was killed as he had gove to Bridgeport with a party that was brought home injured from a fight they had got into. we have not found out anything yet. Father Badger Mr Hilton, Walter Millie Haskill all took dinner with us after dinner Mr Hilton & Mr Badger took a buggy and drove to Bridgeport to find out something of Jim. while they were there a man brought Jim home - very much bruised in the face & hands he attempted to run out of the house, and was surrounded by a gang of drunken irish who beat him and left him in the road. he was taken into a neighbors and cared for - he is now in bed - all three of them were ?? at five Aunt Lizzie & Mother Badger came in to see me - and spent the evening

Monday July 6th 1863

This is a warm day - we all well - Hannah did not come. I wrote home - great excitement in the City. Bonfires & fireworks. Cannon and bells ringing Vicksburgh taken by Grant.
