a large party of Indians at Texas Bend of the Pecos a few days before our arrival there & upon looking up the trail found that they had gone Northward to the Guadalupe Mountains. A trail of three or four Indains was found to-day - heading Northward- two Mexicans who were with Lieut Esterly came into our camp this evening & report that Lieut. Esterly overtook the Indians on the evening of the 2nd Mch near the upper end of the White sand hills. during a hard wind & dust storm. That they attacked the indians and wounded three of them but night coming & being unable to see anything on account of the dust & darkness that the Indians got - leaving about half of the stolen stock.
