And as the Command travels on pieces of old roots & dead brush is gathered up & put in the wagons so that we will have the means at hand for building fires to have the cooking done.

As we had an excellent Camp last night at Texas Bend we can make out to put up with a very poor one for to-night - Hope that it will not be so windy & dusty to-morrow. We are gradually getting up into a higher altitude & it is much cooler than it was at Stockton. The Cook has our dinner nearly ready & it is drawing towards evening. We stopped about one hour at Narbo's Crossing to-day to water & fill up water kegs & arrived here about 3.P.M.
