August, Saturday, 8. 1863. Warm again. Nothing doing in camp or on the river. In the evening rode down to Van Buren Hospital & returning just at night learned that there was a flag of truce at the lines. It was under command of Lieut Tompkins 3rd La Cav -Harrisons. Had 14 paroled prisoners & one lady when I rec'd Had quite a visit with them at night & visit them in the morning Sunday, 9. Rode out with the flag of truce as it was returning. Went as far as Mr Maroneys? house and returned. Oh how Hot! A quiet Sunday. Read some and slept a good deal Quite a number of boats passed in the evening. F.
