1793 unclear 5 mo. 6 2 came to us, & we rode about unclear miles to James Coals & Lodged, the road very rough in Places. 7 3 Rose early and rode about 45 Miles to Peter Roberts. 8 4 Rode about 22 Miles to the painted Post situated on the River Sioga, counted about 240 Miles from Philadelphia in about 9 Days, some of the worst road I ever travaild, but we got along prety chearfully, the commissioners were very kind & Respectful to us, the Flats along the River exceeding fertile, in some of them there appear'd old Hills where the Indians used to plant Corn; but they are now driven to seek Habitation far distant, & have received but very little Consideration for their fine fertile Country, which is to be fear'd has been one Cause of the present unhappy Difference between them & the white People. 9 5
